Technical Description – ColorPlus 3 Nitrate

Nitrate is one of the most common groundwater contaminants in rural areas. Higher nitrate levels can pose a direct threat to health, but they also indicate the possible presence of other more serious contaminants, such as bacteria or pesticides.  Nitrate in groundwater originates primarily from fertilizers, septic systems, and manure storage or agricultural spreading operations.

The Sigrist ColorPlus 3 offers you online measurement of nitrate. We use a long-life xenon flash lamp is which offers a well-defined light spectrum over the wavelengths we require with a very low loss of intensity.

The continuous water sample is measured using two optical path lengths which will determine any contamination in the measuring cell. The value measured is automatically corrected and the instrument informs the user when the measuring cell needs to be cleaned.  In addition to the compensation for window fouling, DOC and turbidity are also compensated prior to displaying the Nitrate value.

There is a continual and automatic instrument verification.

The PVC cover can be easily removed without tools. Easy access to the optics allows cleaning of the measuring cell. The instrument indicates any maintenance due. The control unit SICON can be set to display values, graphs, status and alarms on state-of-the-art touchscreen technology and colour display. Internal data storage allows the visualization of the measurements over the last 32 days. The instrument is used in the treatment of drinking water.

The control unit SICON offers all possibilities of full system integration using various interface options. A SD card is standard and can be used for data logging with almost unlimited storage capacity.

The SICON is available as a control unit for a single instrument, or the SICON M Control Unit which allows simple operation of several instruments up to a maximum of 8 measuring channels.
