OilGuard 2 Ex

The OilGuard works on the fluorescence principle. The design uses a non-contact measuring cell that eliminates contact between the sample and the flow cell. This ensures that the measuring cell remains clear from contamination and the drift in results that follows. If water doesn’t touch optics, the windows won’t foul.

The OilGuard Ex is the most dependable instrument available for monitoring mineral oils in hazardous environments with extremely low maintenance. The OilGuard Ex is doing service on many Australian oil platforms, FPSOs and Refineries today.

The instrument can be returned to factory calibration using the included highly stable, mono-crystalline calibration checking unit. Recalibration requires no consumables or tools to return the instrument back to factory calibration.  Furthermore, the OilGuard can be calibrated to your own specific oil profile by Sigrist during manufacture of your OilGuard, or by your team on site.

This instrument is for application in a hazardous area. If your proposed installation is in a safe are, then the lower cost OilGuard 2W may suit you better.

There is a closed cell version of the OilGuard for when your application calls for it.

Technical Description – OilGuard 2 Ex

The OilGuard Ex is the most dependable instrument for monitoring mineral oils in hazardous environments with extremely low maintenance. The OilGuard Ex is doing service on many Australian oil platforms today.

The most common solution we offer is the non-contact measuring cell, due to the number of contaminants that will cause staining on the optical windows. If water doesn’t touch optics, the windows won’t foul.

Ultrasonic cleaning or wipers attempt to remedy a problem that the Sigrist OilGuard avoids by design

The OilGuard Ex specs include:

  • 0 to 1,000 ppm oil, with the Range set to 0-50ppm
  • IECEx certified
  • Hazardous area (Ex px IIC T4 Gb)
  • Ambient Temperature: -20 to 50o C
  • IP66
  • Outputs: 4-20mA standard and digital ouputs
  • Also available: Ethernet, Modbus TCP, microSD-card
    Optional: HART, Profibus DP, Modbus RTU

 

Summary of Advantages of the OilGuard Compared to Alternative Options

  • No Fouling: By opting to use the non-contact (free fall) measuring cell you will avoid the fouling issues that alternative suppliers attempt to remedy with Ultrasonic cleaning or wipers. Self-Cleaning is NOT required.

  • PVDF Nozzle in Measuring Cell: By using a PVDF nozzle instead of stainless steel, the chance of fouling on the nozzle is eliminated.
  • Easy Maintenance: The Measuring cell is separate from the Ex-p enclosure and can be opened for maintenance with 2 thumb screws without switching off.
