TES01 Truck Earthing System

Loading and unloading of tanker trucks with liquids or powders can generate static electricity that could cause sparks discharging. The Stuvex TES01-V2 earthing verification system has been designed to detect a low electrical resistance between the clamp jaws that are attached to the truck’s earthing point.

Technical Description – TES01 Truck Earthing System

Loading and unloading of tanker trucks with liquids or powders can generate static electricity that could cause sparks discharging.

To ensure that loading cannot take place without the truck being earthed, a monitoring system is required to ensure that a good connection has been made to the truck by means of a clamp, the earth monitor will then allow the conveying process to be started by means of a relay. For an earth monitoring system to be effective it must be able to distinguish between a connection to a truck and any other metallic body such as ductwork, girders, cable trays etc.

In order to make the distinction, the Truck Earthing System TES-01 measures the capacitance of the metal body connected to the clamp, it checks whether the capacitance is correct for a truck, and finally provides both visual indication and the closing of a relay contact when the capacitance is correct.

A Closer Look

  • The Truck Earthing System TES01 consists of a control unit, an earth clamp and a cable or cable reel
  • Safe electrostatic discharging of trucks
  • Permanent electrical resistance control
  • Recognition of truck capacitance
  • High visibility signalling LEDs
  • Voltage free contact to PLC, pump
  • Power supply 100-240 V AC or24 V DC standard
  • Conforms to IEC 60079-32-1:2013 and NFPA77:2014
  • Plug and play
  • Available in gas (EX) or dust (IP) version

The Specs at a Glance

The Truck Earthing System TES-01 is designed to detect a low resistance connection across the jaws of the clamp. When a connection is detected the unit safely discharges any electrostatic charge through a resistor to prevent sparking.

The control unit then checks the capacitance seen at the clamp. If the capacitance is correct for a tanker truck, then the green indicator will be lit and the interlock relay will change state to allow the conveying of product. The unit will then provide a low resistance connection to earth to prevent further build-up of electrostatic charge.

The connection across the jaws is then continually monitored during the conveying process. If the connection is broken the unit will switch back to the RED NOT-CONNECTED state and conveying will be halted by means of the interlock relay.
