ColorPlus 2 (HAZEN and DOC Measurement in Raw Water)

Knowing the organic load of your raw water and the colour staining of your raw water intake can provide a feed-forward element of control to your water treatment process to optimise the treatment process and save money.

Until now, measuring the dissolved organics and colour required an expensive system. With the Sigrist ColorPlus the upfront cost is low enough so that your ROI is going to be much higher, much sooner.

The ColorPlus measures the colour by absorption online using up to three different wavelengths. The bypass measuring cell has been specifically designed for applications within the water industry. Depending on the configuration you select, it allows measuring DOC (UV absorption) and colour (Hazen) simultaneously while compensating for turbidity, which would otherwise influence the results

How the ColorPlus will provide reliable data in 3 effective steps

  1. Contamination Compensation: The ColorPlus is an absorption instrument which is in contact with the sample water. Like all alternative products, the optics will eventually become contaminated when they are in contact with water. However, it’s at this point that the Sigrist philosophy of minimal maintenance with no tools gives you a clear benefit.

Inside the measuring cell is a small piece of glass made from the same material as the windows. This is called the Compensation Glass. The light source is split into 2 beams. One beam goes through the transmitter window, the water sample and the receiver window. The second beam goes through the transmitter window, the water sample, both faces of the compensation glass, and the receiver window (ie twice the contamination). The ColorPlus now compensates for contamination until no more correction can be made internally and a Clean Alarm is generated.

  1. Turbidity Compensation: The ColorPlus uses narrow bandwidth light sources to monitor concentration by using the Beer-Lambert principle of absorption as an indicator of concentration. However, this concept has an Achilles heel. It affects everybody, and It is turbidity. Turbidity will absorb the light intensity unless it is taken out of the equation. This is where the 3rd light source at 700nm is used to solely monitor absorption outside the visible spectrum and then used to compensate the colour and UV 254 values. This feature will give you True Colour readings.
  2. Simple, Fast, Accurate Calibration. With up to 3 different values to calibrate, the ColorPlus completes in minutes what would take other instruments hours to check. By using the tried and proven optical calibration elements from a major aerospace company, the Calibration process couldn’t be easier. No chemicals. No mixing. No cost.

Additionally, the Sigrist ColorPlus provides easy integration into your control system. We offer a range of output signals for efficient communication with your equipment.

  • Up to four 4-20 mA outputs, Digital inputs and outputs
  • Ethernet, Modbus TCP
  • Optional: Profibus DP, Modbus RTU. HART

The control unit SICON uses state-of-the-art touch screen technology with colour display. It allows simple operation using logical menu guidance. The user can select how results are displayed, either as plain values, graphs or historical data, including the indication of system and alarm status.

The control unit SICON offers all possibilities of full system integration using various interface options. A SD card is standard and can be used for data logging with almost unlimited storage capacity.

The SICON is available as a control unit for a single instrument, or the SICON M Control Unit which allows simple operation of several instruments up to a maximum of 8 measuring channels.
