Recycling
When inflammable material is crushed, conveyed, and stored, the risk of fire increases. The use of renewable sources of energy increases this risk, as these materials usually are dry and need only low ignition energy to ignite. Common materials handled are wooden pellets, peat and agricultural waste. Another energy source is domestic refuse which can be highly flammable!
Firefly offers fire protection that detects and extinguish sparks/hot particles and flames in risk areas using fast IR-sensors together with water spray or water mist to extinguish.
Every year, fires occur in numerous shredders in the recycling industry. Frequent fires in shredders often result in production downtime and loss of revenue. Regardless if you shred waste, paper or other material, a fire in a shredder can occur due to several reasons: for example, friction, bearing failure or foreign objects (stones, metal pieces, etc.) in the process.
A fire in a shredder can spread very quickly. Therefore, a fast-acting fire protection system that also can withstand the tough conditions in and around a shredder is required.
The need to increase productivity has led to the development of new machinery with higher feeding speeds. These higher speeds automatically increase the risk for a fire or explosion due to for example friction. The demand for production safety and fire prevention in the woodworking industry has therefore increased. By tailoring a fire protection system…
