StuvEx TES01-V2 Truck Earthing System

Safe Loading & Unloading in Hazardous Areas

The Stuvex TES01-V2 is a SIL 2 rated truck earthing verification system designed to prevent electrostatic ignition hazards during the loading and unloading of non-conductive liquids and powders in industrial environments. By continuously monitoring the earth clamp connection and verifying truck presence through capacitive measurement, the TES01-V2 ensures safe electrostatic discharge before loading or unloading is permitted. A potential-free interlock contact provides automatic release of loading equipment, with red and green status indicators for clear operator feedback.

Available in two variants – the TES01-V2/EX for gas atmospheres (zones 1, 2, 21, 22) and TES01-V2/IP for dust atmospheres (zones 21, 22) – the system is IECEx certified and complies with IEC 60079-31-1 and NFPA 77.

Description

Stuvex TES01-V2 Truck Earthing Verification System

The Stuvex TES01-V2 is a SIL 2 rated truck earthing verification system engineered to prevent electrostatic ignition hazards during the loading and unloading of non-conductive liquids and powders in industrial environments. By safely discharging electrostatic build-up and continuously monitoring the earth connection, the TES01-V2 eliminates the risk of spark-induced explosions in hazardous areas where flammable atmospheres can form.

Designed for plug-and-play installation and certified under both ATEX and IECEx schemes, the TES01-V2 provides a reliable, fully automated earthing solution for tanker truck loading bays across petrochemical, chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and bulk handling facilities.

The Electrostatic Risk During Loading and Unloading

Loading and unloading non-conductive liquids or powders from tanker trucks generates electrostatic charges through friction and flow. If sufficient electrostatic energy accumulates and is suddenly discharged, it can ignite flammable vapours or dust clouds, leading to fire or explosion. The TES01-V2 mitigates this risk by establishing a verified, low-resistance earth connection between the truck and ground before loading or unloading can begin, ensuring static charges are safely dissipated throughout the entire process.

How the TES01-V2 Works

The TES01-V2 consists of a control unit, a connecting cable, and an active aluminium or stainless steel earthing clamp. When the clamp is attached to the truck’s earthing point, the system performs the following sequence:

  • Verifies a low-resistance electrical connection between the truck, clamp, cable, and control unit
  • Confirms the presence of a truck through capacitive measurement
  • Safely discharges any electrostatic build-up without forming sparks
  • Releases the potential-free interlock contact to allow loading or unloading to begin
  • Continuously monitors the earth connection throughout the operation
  • Immediately interrupts loading or unloading via the interlock relay if the connection is lost

Red and green status indicators provide clear operator feedback at all times.

Key Benefits of the TES01-V2 Earthing Verification System

  • Safe electrostatic discharge of the truck before and during (un)loading
  • Earth clamp resistance measurement for verified connection integrity
  • Capacitive verification confirms a truck is connected, not another conductive object
  • Red and green visual indicators for clear operator feedback
  • Potential-free interlock contact for automatic release of loading equipment
  • Power supply 100–240 V AC and 24 V DC as standard
  • Easy “plug and play” installation
  • Available in gas (EX) or dust (IP) hazardous area versions
  • ATEX and IECEx certified
  • Complies with IEC 60079-31-1 and NFPA 77
  • Safety class SIL 2

TES01-V2 Variants

The TES01-V2 is available in two variants to suit different hazardous atmospheres:

  • TES01-V2/EX – Suitable for use in gas atmospheres (zones 1, 2, 21 and 22). Housed in a grey-coloured cast aluminium explosion-proof, copper-free enclosure.
  • TES01-V2/IP – Suitable for use in dust atmospheres (zones 21 and 22). Housed in a stainless steel AISI 304 enclosure with integrated bypass.

Active Earth Clamp Technology

The TES01-V2 uses active earthing clamps where the two clamp jaws are insulated from each other and from the clamp body. As long as the clamp is not connected to a conductor, the circuit between the jaws stays open and no current can flow. Connecting the clamp to the truck’s earthing point closes the circuit and brings the TES01-V2 into operation. This active design ensures the system only operates when a genuine conductive earthing point is connected, preventing false readings from non-truck objects.

An optional clamp storage point can be supplied, with or without a shelter, to protect the clamp when not in use.

Cable Options

Flexible cable options are available to suit different installation environments:

  • Straight cable (CO01/10) – 10 m UV and oil-resistant cable
  • Spiral cable (SP1/10) – 10 m self-retracting spiral cable
  • Cable reel (CR1/65) – 15 m cable with automatic spring-activated retractor in an IP65 aluminium housing

Hazardous Area Certification (Australia / New Zealand)

The TES01-V2 is certified for use in hazardous industrial environments under the international standards recognised across the Australian and New Zealand markets:

  • IECEx certification under the AS/NZS 60079 series for hazardous area equipment
  • Complies with IEC 60079-31-1 and NFPA 77 for electrostatic ignition prevention
  • SIL 2 functional safety with intrinsically safe (Ex ia) measurement and earth connection circuits
  • TES01-V2/EX marking: Ex db [ia Ga] IIC T6 Gb / Ex tb [ia Ga] IIIC T85 °C Db
  • TES01-V2/IP marking: Ex db [ia Ga] IIIC T135 °C Db
