Conventional boiling water degassing system setups are wasteful because fixed purge valves discharge steam continuously regardless of actual O₂ levels, resulting in typical steam losses of 0.2–0.5% of boiler output. The Centec OxySteam solves this: the OxyTrans TR optical sensor continuously measures O₂ in the steam vapour phase and controls the purge valve via PLC to discharge only when required, reducing water degassing steam losses by up to 95% and delivering payback periods as short as six months.

To generate steam, water is heated in a steam boiler, but the oxygen present can cause harmful corrosion, necessitating thermal degassing. The Centec OxySteam has been developed as a system for regulating the steam used for degassing continuously. The Centec OXYTRANS TR can be used to monitor the O2 content of the exhaust vapor and to precisely control the valve for discharging the steam. The remaining opening time of the valve is a measure of the steam savings. Steam losses can be reduced by up to 95 %.
