Range of Calibration Gas & Accessories

Gas Recycling Program

Gas Recycling Program

Once the calibration gas cylinders are relieved of pressure they are NOT considered hazardous material or waste. Nearly all of our mixtures contain only a very small amount of a hazardous chemical(s) as a minor component in the gas mixture requested. The fact that it is such a small amount (usually in the ppm range) always precludes the gas mixture from ever being classified as hazardous.

Our calibration gas cylinder recycling program is an environmentally-friendly way to reduce waste caused by empty cylinders. We offer a free, easy way to return used cylinders for future use.

How Often Do Gas Detectors Need Calibration?

The frequency of gas detector calibration depends on the sensor type, operational environment, and manufacturer recommendations. Most portable and fixed detectors require calibration every 90 days for standard operation, though higher-risk environments may require monthly or even weekly verification. ProDetec provides tailored schedules based on your site requirements, ensuring your gas monitor calibration program maintains compliance and safety without unnecessary downtime.

Routine calibration and gas leak detectors help to reduce the risk of false alarms, sensor drift, or undetected gas leaks. With ProDetec, you can schedule gas detectors calibration alongside preventive maintenance for maximum operational efficiency.

Our Calibration Process

ProDetec follows a precise, traceable gas detector calibration process to deliver reliable results and documented compliance:

  1. Initial Inspection – Each detector is visually inspected for damage, sensor condition, and operational readiness.
  2. Bump Test – Sensors are exposed to a known gas concentration to verify alarm response.
  3. Full Calibration – Using certified calibration gas and a gas detector calibration kit, sensors are adjusted to respond accurately to defined concentrations.
  4. Documentation – Calibration certificates are issued, providing traceable records for workplace compliance audits.
  5. System Verification – For fixed systems, alarm panels and control integration are checked to ensure proper response across the network.
  6. Maintenance Recommendations – Any sensor replacement or additional service requirements are advised to maximise detector lifespan and accuracy.

Our structured approach ensures your gas monitor calibration program meets Australian regulations, reduces operational risk, and minimises downtime.

Frequently Asked
Questions

How is a gas detector calibrated?

Calibration involves exposing the sensor to a known concentration of gas, verifying its response, and adjusting the detector to ensure accurate readings. ProDetec uses NIST/NATA-traceable calibration gas and certified procedures for all devices.

Can I calibrate my own gas detector?

While some bump tests can be performed in-house, full gas detector calibration requires certified gas, technical expertise, and proper documentation to ensure compliance. ProDetec provides both on-site and in-house service solutions.

How much does gas detector calibration cost?

Costs vary based on detector type, gas mixture, and service location. ProDetec provides transparent pricing and can tailor a service schedule to suit your operational needs.

What is the turnaround time?

Turnaround depends on the number of detectors and service type. Routine gas monitor calibration is typically completed within 24-48 hours for portable detectors, with fixed system calibrations scheduled to minimise downtime.

Do you provide calibration certificates?

Yes. Every gas detectors calibration service includes a traceable certificate of calibration for regulatory compliance and internal record-keeping.
